MANAMA: A total of 1,730 tenders and auctions amounting to BD1.847 billion were awarded in 2019.
“Public tenders accounted for a record 70.5 per cent of the total number during the same period,” said Tender Board chairman Shaikh Nayef bin Khalid Al Khalifa.
He said that the board saved BD106.4 million through 164 negotiating operations before awarding tenders and auctions.
The construction and infrastructure sector had the lion’s share of the awarded projects, amounting to BD820m, followed by the sector of oil and gas (BD433m), services and investment (BD225m), aviation (BD193m) and materials and equipment (BD109m).
The Housing Ministry topped the public entities with tenders worth BD347,563, followed by Tatweer Petroleum (BD322,620), the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry (BD294,708), Electricity and Water Authority (BD240,408) and Gulf Air (BD175,400).
