A BAHRAINI man, in his 80s, has been jailed for 15 years for sexually assaulting his teenage daughter.
The defendant is said to have sexually assaulted his 16-year-old daughter several times at their home in Manama in December last year.
His daughter told her mother about her ordeal after which the woman reported her husband to the police.
The victim told prosecutors during the investigation that her father waited for her mother to leave the house before he started kissing her and touching her inappropriately.
The High Criminal Court yesterday found him guilty of sexual assault and jailed him for 15 years.
“The court found the defendant guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence presented against him,” read the court ruling.
“He denied the charges in an attempt to evade being punished.
“However, prosecution witnesses, the victim’s testimony and an investigation proved that he carried out the crime.”
Defence lawyer Fatima Al Hawaj said she will lodge an objection against the ruling due to her client’s age.
“My client denied the charges and said that he would never hurt his daughter,” she said.
“In addition, he is elderly and I request him to be released on bail due to his age and health condition.
“I will lodge an objection against the ruling at the same court.”
The defendant was previously released on bail pending the outcome of his trial due to his age and health condition.
