Workers’ rights have been and continue to be well protected and covered by international standards in Bahrain. That is why Bahrain has garnered appreciation from international organisations and developed countries including the US when it comes to handling of labour concerns.
The Flexi work permit programme which turns out to be a new innovation in work related visa system in Bahrain remains a unique feature in the region where thousands of workers continue to benefit from it.
Addressing new challenges and confronting them head-on has brought new work freedom to expat workers. For instance, an issue in the GDN, May 10, ‘Job transition time proposed’ addressed the ‘missing link’ that was in demand among expat workers for years. Before changing sponsors, expats need time to think before taking up the new position and decide if the work environment suits them and if their services are needed.
Obviously, giving time to switch jobs and sponsors reduce future labour disputes between the employer and employees. The lack of which will results in disputes and forces the worker to take extreme measures including running away from his/her sponsor.
Bahrain continues to bring innovative ideas to address expat workers’ concerns. Hope the approval of the job transition time proposal will add another accolade to Bahrain’s reputation.
