TWENTY-FIVE Bahraini postmen who would have lost their jobs due to cost reduction at Bahrain Post have been thrown a lifeline.
It follows intervention by National Action Charter Bloc president MP Mohammed Al Sissi, who negotiated with the Labour and Social Development Ministry to stop a local company from terminating the contracts.
The company is hired to do distribution work on behalf of the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry, under which Bahrain Post operates.
“We have managed to stop the timed contract terminations of the 25 people because the government is paying private sector employees’ wages for three months,” said Mr Al Sissi, who is also Parliament’s foreign affairs, defence and national security committee chairman.
“The renewed contracts are subject to negotiations between the labour authorities, the company and the postmen starting from July should there be no continuation of government support.
“The welfare of the postmen is our responsibility and even during negotiations for new contracts we will ensure they don’t lose benefits or are able to find new jobs.”
