THE annual Eid open house at the Grand Mosque will not be held this year due to Covid-19 pandemic.
For more than 20 years on both Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, the Ahmed Al Fateh Islamic Centre (Grand Mosque) in Juffair opened its doors for people of all faiths to share information about Islam.
The purpose of the event is to promote relations between Muslims and other faiths living in Bahrain and to raise awareness about the Bahraini culture.
However, with mosques being closed for the foreseeable future in order to maintain social distancing and limiting the spread of the coronavirus the event has been cancelled.
This is not the first time the open house was cancelled; in 2017 it was called off for the first time in 17 years as a management decision, as most of the organisers were on leave for the Haj pilgrimage.
The 6,500sqm Grand Mosque has capacity for up to 70,000 worshippers, and has been holding tours for non-Muslims since 1998.
