MPs have submitted a proposed amendment to prevent the government from employing expats in high paying civil service jobs.
The amendment to the 2010 Civil Service Law was submitted today by five MPs led by Ebrahim Al Nefaei.
It would see an article be emitted from the law that allows the government to employ expats if qualified Bahrainis are unavailable.
"Civil jobs are just for Bahrainis and there should be no exceptions," said Mr Al Nefaei.
"The government is taking the exception as an excuse to not train and prepare Bahrainis to take up those posts, which are mostly of a well-paid nature.
"There should be no contracts on offer to expats whatsoever and instead that money should go towards replacement plans for those whose contracts would be automatically terminated following the introduction of this rule."
The proposal will be referred electronically by Parliament chairwoman Fouzia Zainal to the services committee.
