Kuwait City: GCC health ministers held their third extraordinary meeting on Wednesday discussing measures for fighting the novel coronavirus, inter-GCC co-ordination against the contagion and role of the health sector for phased restoration of normal life in the member countries.
Dr Rehab Al Watyan, director of international health relations at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) the conferees discussed means of unifying efforts in facing the pandemic.
Kuwaiti Health Minister Shaikh Basel Al Sabah assigned the assistant undersecretary, Dr Mohammad Al Khashti, to represent him in the virtual conference.
Dr Al Watyan confirmed that they also discussed plans in each GCC country for gradual restoration of regular activities and businesses and measures to reopen borders.
The ministers assigned committees to follow up on the pandemic status and evolution of the pandemic and maintain contacts at this level via the joint operations room.
In addition, they expressed gratitude to the GCC countries' top leaders for their keenness on citizens' health, their limitless support for the health sector in the shadow of the health crisis, underlining praise by international agencies namely the World Health Organisation for the GCC countries' efforts against the breakout.
