RIYADH: The GCC countries yesterday affirmed their commitment to fight terrorist groups and praised the Saudi initiative to form an Islamic coalition to counter Daesh.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud received at Yamama Palace in Riyadh GCC Interior Ministers taking part in their 17th consultative meeting chaired by Saudi Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Lt Gen Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa headed the Bahraini delegation.
The meeting discussed vital security issues – including threats by Islamic State and other terrorist groups and Iran’s interference in the internal affairs of GCC countries.
The ministers appreciated King Salman’s efforts to boost co-operation among Gulf countries to reinforce regional security and stability.
They praised the outcome of the Gulf-US summit in Riyadh, including the commitment by GCC countries and the US to enter into a strategic partnership to achieve regional security and stability and take further steps to defeat Daesh and Al Qaeda.
The ministers applauded the signing of a security co-operation agreement between Oman and Qatar.
Kuwait was hailed for hosting political negotiations between the UN envoy and parties concerned to end the crisis in Yemen.
GCC Secretary General Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani said the ministers reviewed King Salman’s vision to reinforce GCC security. He said the under-secretaries of interior ministries have been directed to follow up on
the implementation of this vision.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Interior Minister met UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan and applauded the historic ties.
