FOUR men are in the dock for allegedly being part of a drug dealing ring.
Three Bahrainis and an Indian man appeared at the High Criminal Court yesterday where they denied selling drugs.
They were arrested when the Indian defendant, 27, tried to sell BD10 worth of heroin to an undercover agent in Manama in April.
He then led them to his co-defendants who were arrested in similar sting operations.
However, a 31-year-old Bahraini told prosecutors he only used drugs and did not sell them.
“I have been using shabu for three years and work in a restaurant where I take orders over the phone,” he said in his statement to prosecutors.
“On April 25, I went to Sitra to buy heroin from a friend (the Indian) for BD10.
“I don’t sell drugs and am not part of any drug dealing ring.
“That day, my friend told me to give BD10 worth of heroin to another person because he was busy, but then I was arrested.”
A detective described how he found out about the alleged drug dealing ring.
“My secret sources provided me with information about a drug dealing ring headed by an Indian man,” the 40-year-old Bahraini told prosecutors.
“We arrested him red-handed and found out about others helping him sell drugs.
“We set up separate sting operations and arrested three Bahrainis who helped him sell heroin.”
The trial has been adjourned until Tuesday for review.
