Manama: Strong ties with Russia were highlighted yesterday as His Majesty King Hamad held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
They reviewed ways to bolster co-operation and agreed to invigorate the work of joint committees to serve shared interests and achieve the aspirations of people.
The King hailed the major role President Putin is playing to enhance bilateral relations based on mutual respect and co-ordination.
He congratulated the Russian President on the success of a referendum on amendments to the Russian constitution as well as on the 75th anniversary of the Allied victory in the Second World War and the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The conversation emphasised the settlement of the Syrian crisis and preservation of Syria’s territorial integrity, and the King lauded Russia’s active international role, under President Putin’s leadership, praising its keenness to consolidate security and peace regionally and globally.
International efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic and its various repercussions were also reviewed.
The Russian President thanked the King for his efforts and keenness to enhance relations and co-operation with his country.
He wished Bahrain and its people further success, progress and prosperity under the King’s leadership.
