A MAN has been acquitted of assaulting an elderly man at one of Bahrain’s main public markets.
The 30-year-old Indian was arrested for allegedly assaulting the 58-year-old Bahraini at Manama Central Market in April.
He was tried at the High Criminal Court but was cleared yesterday due to lack of evidence.
The court said it found the victim’s statements contradictory, casting doubt on his allegations.
The victim reportedly suffered a 13 per cent disability in his shoulder.
“The victim said the defendant had attacked him at Manama Central Market,” read the court ruling.
“He initially said that the defendant had pushed him to the ground and he had landed on his left shoulder.
“However, he later said that the defendant had hit him on his left shoulder.
“He then again changed his recollection of the incident and said that the defendant had struck him on his left elbow.
“All this cast doubt on his claims and caused the court not to trust his statements.”
The reason for the alleged attack was not revealed in court documents.
