A MAN jailed for using drugs after his girlfriend was caught walking naked down a highway has lost his final appeal.
The 32-year-old Italian woman was found guilty of using drugs, public indecency and assaulting and insulting police who arrested her.
The High Criminal Court jailed her for two years and fined her BD1,000 in February 2019, while her Bahraini boyfriend, in his 30s, was sent behind bars for 12 months for using drugs.
Both lodged appeals at the Supreme Criminal Appeals Court, which upheld their sentences in April 2019.
The man lodged a final appeal at the Cassation Court which was rejected yesterday. His girlfriend did not file a last appeal.
“The defendant was found guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence against him,” read the court ruling.
The woman was arrested after she walked naked through traffic on Shaikh Salman Highway, near Salmabad, in November 2018.
Videos and pictures of the incident, taken by passing motorists, immediately went viral on social media.
