Success stories abound around us – whether they are in business, ministries, agencies, companies or banks. These are instances of our people who have set an example in dedication, sincerity and excellence not only in Bahrain but across the region and around the world.
We should be proud of such distinction because the nation is built on these successes. But, unfortunately, institutions are these days facing a violent attack and rumours are being spread about such achievements.
From my long experience, I see a solution to the issue by activating the work of public relations and media departments in these institutions. For example, we see there are institutions that are effective in highlighting their achievements at various levels as well as determining what is suitable for publication. But many of them lose their credibility over time and accept opinions from those who are not qualified.
The media is a double-edged sword and must be used in a professional and smart way. Public relations departments are at the top of the pyramid due to their importance and sensitivity of their activities.
Unfortunately, many do not realise or value the efforts of this department and, on the contrary, some of them consider it a burden on the institution’s budget. Of course, this betrays their ignorance.
The public are not even aware of many success stories. Accomplishments of sincere Bahrainis result in institutions improving their image, as well as that of the employee or employees who are behind the achievement.
It’s like saying, “killing two birds with one stone.”
The responsibility is shared between the public relations department and the top management and this requires setting up a plan for implementation. It is very important that the responsible department must be consulted and take its opinion and its opinion should be respected.
I hope we see a fundamental change in the work of public relations departments, in particular at ministries and government institutions and some private institutions that hold back or prefer not to publicise their and their employees’ accomplishments.
I can assure that publicising such achievements will give very positive results and work magic on the psyche, sincerity and loyalty of workers. This will create a stimulating, successful and positive work environment in the organisational culture.
