BAHRAIN’S much-awaited annual summer festival begins today with a live performance by the country’s traditional Ismael Dewas band.
Their performance in the parking lot of the Bahrain Fort’s museum is one of the two live performances this year.
The rest of the events, workshops and performances of the 12th edition of the festival will be live-streamed to a global audience until August 31.
Held under the slogan ‘Together, Virtually,’ the initiative follows efforts to implement precautionary measures to combat Covid-19.
It is organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) in collaboration with ministries, authorities, private companies and 18 embassies in Bahrain.
The culture authority has called on the public to avoid gathering after the ceremony and co-operate with organisers when entering the event area as well follow instructions and guidelines when leaving the fort’s parking lot.
Spectators will attend the show while sitting in their cars and can listen through their car radios.
They will have to comply with distances between cars determined by the organisers and are not allowed to get out of their cars for any reason.
They must also wear face masks inside the cars if they need to talk to any member of the organising team. Number of people inside a car must not exceed four.
The Dar Shabab Al Riffa band will also perform live on August 13.
The famous Italian performing arts group Gen Rosso from Italy (Monday), Ningxia Performing Arts group from China (Tuesday), Symphony Orchestra from Russia (August 13), Cendrawasih dance group from Indonesia (August 14) and Kuwaiti Takht Band (August 16) are among cultural showcases organised from across the globe in collaboration with embassies in Bahrain. A musical performance by the US-based band ‘Vocal Trash´ (August 19) and a Jordanian play (August 21) are among other highlights. The performances will conclude on August 23 with the animated movie Open and Epin held in collaboration with the Malaysian Embassy.
