Bahrain has produced 4,222 orchids, using modern agro-textile techniques.
The Agriculture and Marine Resources spearheaded the project at the Agro Textile Lab, in co-operation with a specialised Taiwanese team.
Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf said the project, developed with the Taiwanese team, is part of efforts to transfer expertise.
A number of Bahraini trainees who took part in the pilot scheme set up their own investment projects to produce orchid flowers.
Under-Secretary Dr Nabeel Mohammed Abul Fateh said the project marks the beginning of a plan to encourage investment in producing this type of expensive flower which will ensure Bahraini farmers high revenues.
