London: Bahrain has reinforced its navy with a new hi-tech warship, manufactured by the British BAE Systems.
The Kingdom of Bahrain Zubarah was handed over yesterday at the Portsmouth Naval Base in the United Kingdom.
The ceremony was attended by Bahrain’s Ambassador Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Military Attaché Staff Brigadier Ahmed Hamad Al Ruwea, the Royal Bahrain Navy crew of the warship and BAE Systems representatives.
The Royal Naval Force has become one of the defence cornerstones of the nation after achieving landmark strides, integrating all formations and systems at various levels, according to an official statement.
The development strides reflect the visions of His Majesty King Hamad, the Supreme Commander, it said.
The naval force includes modern combat warships, advanced administrative ships and advanced transport and training vessels, in addition to the Sabha frigate, reviving Bahrain’s ancient maritime history.
The Kingdom of Bahrain Zubarah is a source of pride as it is named after Zubarah, a prosperous trade and economic hub built by the Al Khalifa dynasty when it ruled the Qatar peninsula.
It was also a beacon of science and culture as well as gateway to the Arabian Gulf.
The historic Zubarah was also an integral part of the of the mainland, the Kingdom of Bahrain, being the capital of the Al Khalifa’s state which included the peninsula of Qatar and Bahrain archipelago.
