A POULTRY farm in Hamala has been removed after residents sent out distress calls over foul smell emanating from the area.
The farm was set up on land leased from the Jaffari Endowments Directorate.
Mountains of waste and construction debris dumped in the area have also been removed by the directorate, putting an end to citizens’ ordeal.
Northern Municipal councillor for third constituency Mohammed Saad Al Dosari who raised the complaint to the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry yesterday told the GDN that he was grateful to officials for their timely intervention.
“It was very difficult for people to live there because of the foul smell from the farm,” he said.
“I received a number of complaints which I took up with the Jaffari Directorate, who are the owners of this land.
“Moreover, it was very unhygienic to have such a poultry farm in the middle of a residential area.
“A lot of construction waste was also left around the houses which was dangerous,” he said, thanking officials for understanding the situation and responding quickly to issues faced by citizens.
The GDN earlier reported that Northern Municipal Council’s technical committee had been carrying out inspection visits over the past few weeks to clear the governorate of rubbish.
Quick action was urged after farm animals, construction debris, rodents, exposed electrical wires and discarded electronic items were seen around homes and streets within Saar’s block 521 where tens of expatriate labourers live.
Construction waste was also found illegally dumped at Block 450 in Al Muqsha, creating a haven for rodents and a fire hazard threatening the safety of residents.
