A PLAN to set up a new petrol station in Janabiya in the Northern Governorate is under study.
The facility, which is yet to be approved, will be constructed on a land covering 5,506 square metres in block 561, to the west of the main road and to south of Budaiya Highway.
Northern Municipal councillor for the third constituency Mohammed Saad Al Dosari said the Northern Municipal Council has requested Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf to alter the categorisation of the residential-only land for the project to get a nod.
“This area is fast developing and with more residents coming to live here, we definitely need a petrol pump,” Mr Al Dosari told the GDN.
“The project is under study and we hope to get its approval at the earliest.
“The council has also asked the ministry to approve the allocation of 10 per cent of the project for commercial use.”
The integrated petrol station project will also include eight shopping outlets, car service facilities, three fast food restaurants and a minimarket.
The National Oil and Gas Authority (Noga) and the General Directorate of Traffic have already given the green light for the project which caters to the needs of citizens due to urban and demographic expansion, the inauguration of Salman Town and the opening of many malls near the area.
