SIXTY-ONE complaints against people misusing social media to allegedly insult MPs have been filed by parliament chairman at the Public Prosecution.
However, 15 of these complaints have been thrown out due to lack of criminal offence, chief prosecutor Wael Buali revealed in a statement posted on the Public Prosecution's Twitter account.
"We are taking these complaints seriously, considering the prestige of parliament but at the same time mindful of the importance of freedom of speech," said Mr Buali.
"The Public Prosecution is currently investigating these complaints, keeping in mind the Constitution and international standards. "Fifteen of the complaints have been thrown out for lack of criminal offence while the Public Prosecution is currently investigating the rest."
