MANAMA: The start of the school year has been delayed by the Education Ministry for two weeks, in order for teachers and support staff to be tested for Covid-19 following a spike in the number of positive cases in the community.
The move follows directives from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, to review measures concerning reopening of government schools.
It is also based on recommendations by the National Taskforce to Combat the Coronavirus.
Administrative, teaching and technical staff in government schools were scheduled to resume work today but will now do so from September 20.
Concerning the ministry’s affiliates and directorates, the situation will remain the same as last week until new directives are issued to this effect, the ministry said.
There are no changes to the opening of private schools in the kingdom.
