Muharraq regained the lead in the Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League after defeating East Riffa 3-1 at home in a 15th-round game last night.
Amine Bendi opened scoring for Muharraq in the 19th minute and Everton extended the lead in the 55th minute. Later, in the 73rd minute, Nigerian Prince netted the third goal to place Muharraq in a commanding position against East Riffa, who managed to pull one back in the 87th minute through Khalifa Isa.
In the second game of the night, Hidd, who were the leaders until last night’s matches, were routed by Riffa 4-0.
Riffa started the match strongly, opening the scoring in the 15th minute through Mohammed Sawla. Fifteen minutes later, captain Camille Al Aswad added another goal to help Riffa lead 2-0 at half-time.
Riffa’s brilliance continued in the second half as Mohammed Saoula and Al Aswad scored in the 73rd and 85th minutes.
Muharraq now top the standings with 34 points while Hidd are second with 32. Riffa took the third position with 31 points and East Riffa remain in the fifth spot with 22.
Tonight, Manama meet Busaiteen and Al Ahli take on Al Najma in other 15th-round matches.
