Kuwait City: The father of one of the Kuwaiti juveniles who beat up an Egyptian worker in a toy store last week has apologised to the worker.
The two Kuwaiti teenagers were taken into custody after they attacked the victim at his workplace following a quarrel and filmed it.
The clip was posted on social media and the victim was summoned and asked to file a case, a security source said.
When he refused, instructions were given to the e-crimes branch to bring in the person who filmed the incident and refer him to the judiciary for misuse of the phone.
The Egyptian Ministry of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs confirmed that the video of the assault was tampered with and does not include all the details of the incident, adding that the victim told the ministry that he wished to remain anonymous.
The video sparked an angry reaction from Egyptians on social media and follows a number of similar incidents - In July, a Kuwaiti man was arrested for slapping an Egyptian cashier three times at a supermarket and in 2018, an attack on an Egyptian woman living in Kuwait sparked an angry response from Egypt’s immigration minister Nabila Makram.
Egyptians make up the second largest expatriate community in Kuwait, with more than 600,000 living in the country.
