MANAMA: A Bahraini woman who tested positive for the coronavirus infected 21 others spanning three generations.
This was revealed by the Health Ministry in its contact tracing highlights.
The 58-year-old index case (no 53869), who tested positive in random community screening, infected people from eight different households.
“The new cases – spanning over three generations – were mostly family-related, but included a few of the woman’s friends who had interacted with one another during an Ashoora gathering,” the ministry said.
It added that 16 of the detected cases had direct contact with the index patient, while the remaining five were secondary infections.
Family gatherings have been blamed for a surge in Covid-19 with more than 100 people from 40 different households infected through contacts last week.
These cases span across six clusters, all of which started with a Bahraini citizen.
Eighty six per cent of those infected (September 10 to 16) were Bahrainis while the remaining 14pc expatriates.
The details showed 5,034 cases of which 4,319 were Bahrainis and 715 expatriates.
The average number of new cases per day went up to 719.1 from 663.3.
Local cases constituted 99.4pc (5,008) while the remaining 26 were travel-related (0.51pc). Close contacts included 2,287 while 1,328 tested positive after developing symptoms. Another 996 emerged positive during random community testing and 397 after completing quarantine.
In another cluster, a Bahraini man, 45, (no 53500) who tested positive after developing symptoms infected 26 others from nine households. It included his children, parents, siblings and other extended family members.
“Six of them had direct contact with the index case and 20 were secondary infections,” said the ministry.
Yet another Bahraini man, 45, infected 17 others from four households. They included immediate and extended family members, with seven direct contacts and 10 secondary infections.
