FOUR muggers jailed for five years each for robbing a man of jewellery worth BD2,000 have lost their final appeals.
The defendants, from Pakistan, stalked the victim as he left a jewellery shop, ambushed him and made off with his wallet and the jewellery.
They were all convicted of theft and assault by the High Criminal Court in November 2017.
They then lodged appeals against their convictions at the Supreme Criminal Appeals Court in March 2018, which upheld their initial sentences.
Their final appeals have been kicked out by the Cassation Court.
The victim, a 59-year-old businessman, had just purchased the jewellery for his daughter at a shop in Manama on March 28, 2017.
Surveillance cameras that filmed the attack helped police track down the culprits.
“The defendants have lost their final appeals against their convictions,” read the Cassation Court verdict.
“They followed their victim in Manama, attacked him and left him with a bloody nose.”
According to court documents, a passer-by alerted authorities about the victim, who was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
One of the defendants said he mugged the victim because he needed money for his wedding.
The defendants will be deported after completing their sentences.
