The fine for failing to wear a face mask in public places has been increased today from BD5 to BD20.
The decree was announced by Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa who urged the public to wear them in public places and commercial outlets.
“Anyone who violates the face mask rule will be fined BD20 that will be collected on the spot and failure to pay will result in the case being referred to the Public Prosecutor,” added the Ministry.
The wearing of face masks in public places and shops has been mandatory since April. The only exceptions are while exercising or travelling inside vehicles.
The GDN earlier reported that a group of MPs had proposed the fine increase as part of tougher penalties for flouting regulations set in place to tackle the spread of Covid-19.
