A PROMISE has been made by the country’s highest legislator that it would not accept that any right of the nation or citizen is infringed upon, writes MOHAMMED AL A’ALI.
National Assembly chairwoman and Parliament Speaker Fouzia Zainal in a meeting with the GDN at her office in the National Assembly Complex expressed her optimism despite the difficult economic conditions that the world is going through.
She added Parliament will progress in light of the current capabilities available, noting the strength, enthusiasm and activity of the MPs and their desire to continue solidarity and integration with the executive authority, in order to achieve more aspirations.
Ms Zainal praised the relationship between the executive and legislative authorities, describing it as distinct.
She stressed that the more stronger and harmonious the relationship between the authorities become the more we can overcome the difficulties and challenges facing the world.
“The legislative or executive authorities has not and will not accept that any right of the nation or citizen is infringed upon,” she added.
Ms Zainal said Parliament’s vision at the beginning of each session is driven from His Majesty King Hamad opening speech. “The royal speech indicated to us where we are and where we shall head,” she further said.
“Parliament awaits an exceptional ordinary session filled with work and we will do our best in continuing to co-operate with everyone in order to complete the march and we shall work to overcome this exceptional stage due to Coronavirus pandemic.”
Ms Zainal further confirmed that any matter that will be raised under the dome of Parliament, whether proposals or budget or others – the first goal of work shall be for the interest of the nation and the citizens. “We are facing an unknown virus and we do not know what tomorrow will be like, therefore the more we co-operate, we can quickly overcome this stage,” said the Speaker.
“We praise the role of the Bahraini people, their good awareness of the circumstances of this stage and their desire to co-operate with everyone to cross this situation.
“This role needs laws that reinforce the situation and strengthen it to overcome these exceptional circumstances, and that the MPs are in a race against time to achieve the maximum aspirations possible.
“The MPs are well aware of the conditions we are going through and they are familiar with all the matters, and if there are intensified parliamentary demands, that is because they desire to achieve the maximum that they can achieve for the citizens.”
Ms Zainal affirmed her support for the Press and media, stressing that they play an important and necessary role in transferring the work and effort of Parliament to the public opinion.
