His Majesty King Hamad congratulated Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the King’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman, on Bahrain attaining top rank in the world, out of 493 races, for holding the half-marathon race last year.
Organised by Bahrain Athletics Association (BBA), the race, which took place in March last year, was the first to be held in the Middle East, earning wide acclaim.
The King also congratulated SCYS first deputy chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa on the occasion.
His Majesty hailed the landmark sports achievement, which builds on other successes in hosting major races and competitions, consolidating Bahrain’s edge on the global sports map.
He lauded the work by Shaikh Nasser, hailing his relentless efforts to promote sports in Bahrain.
The King also congratulated BAA chairman Mohammed Abdullatif bin Jalal on the honourable achievement, hailing the association’s efforts to develop athletics for more regional and international achievements.
