Bahrain was yesterday hailed for its legislation and laws aimed to promote women’s economic and social empowerment and implement the principles of gender professional parity.
Arab Labour Organisation (ALO) director general Fayez Al Mateeri made the remarks in a letter addressed to Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan.
“These laws reflect the spirit of modernisation and development on track to eliminate all forms of gender discrimination in the labour market,” he said.
The ALO recognition follows Bahrain’s recent promulgation of labour laws aimed to support women’s employment and gender equal opportunities in the private sector.
The minister recently issued edicts setting the sectors for women’s work at night and stipulating measures for employing pregnant women and protecting motherhood as per the law on the private sector.
