A PROMINENT lawyer, who was found guilty of violating Covid-19 quarantine rules, has lost her final appeal.
Fatima Al Hawaj was placed under house arrest for three months by the Lower Criminal Court in April.
She lodged an appeal at the High Criminal Appeals Court which reduced her sentence to one month and two weeks.
A final appeal at the Cassation Court was rejected yesterday.
“She arrived in Bahrain from Egypt on March 9 and was informed to stay at home for two weeks,” the Cassation Court said in its ruling yesterday.
“This was according to measures taken for travellers coming from countries where Covid-19 cases were reported.
“Medics took her temperature and samples to test for Covid-19.
“Meanwhile, she was informed to stay home and use a separate room and bathroom.
“She did not follow the instructions and put people’s lives at risk.
“She went to the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry and attended court sessions at the High Criminal Court and the Supreme Criminal Appeals Court.”
