Bahrain and South Korea will be celebrating their sapphire anniversary of bilateral ties next year.
The new South Korean Ambassador to Bahrain Hae Kwan Chung hopes post the Covid-19 crisis the two countries can resume co-operation next year, as the world gradually moves towards “normality” from the pandemic.
“Next year, we aim to resume the joint ventures of the business chambers’ forums, especially as we are marking the 45th anniversary of bilateral ties,” he told the GDN in an exclusive interview.
The envoy described Bahrain as ‘the gateway for Korean companies to the GCC and the Middle East’.
Projects
South Korean companies built the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel and the Dry Dock in the 1970s and are currently building the LNG terminal in Hidd.
They are also involved in Al Dur Power Plant and the Muharraq Sewage Treatment Plant.
The GDN reported earlier that Bahrain’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility was also supported by Teekay LNG Partners and Samsung C&T.
Mr Chung is a career-diplomat who took over in June.
The 53-year-old is passionate about languages and enjoys reading, mainly on history and culture, while he takes to swimming and golfing during his free time.
He is in Bahrain with his wife and two daughters, aged 17 and 12.
