Bahrain’s media is an essential partner in the country’s development thanks to its credibility, objectivity and professional ethics, Parliament Speaker Fouzia Zainal said yesterday.
She highlighted its importance in supporting national priorities and highlighting the kingdom’s civilisation and achievements under His Majesty King Hamad’s leadership.
She was speaking when she met columnists from Bahraini newspapers.
Ms Zainal stressed the key role played by the columnists in raising awareness and enlightening public opinion.
Columnists and journalists highlight the kingdom’s achievements as well as exercise responsible and constructive criticism that seeks reform and development, respects systems and laws, takes into consideration national unity and civil peace and promotes tolerance and coexistence, she pointed out.
The speaker said Parliament is keen to endorse a contemporary law for Press and publication that boosts responsible freedom and copes with developments in the information and communication technology.
