Shawwash, owned by Al Nuwayef Racing, won the Late Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Opening Day Cup of the 2020-21 season organised by the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club at Sakhir yesterday.
The winner, trained by A Smith and ridden by Seamus Cronin, claimed a prize of BD5,000 in the 1,600 metre race.
Dance Monkey, owned by Abdulla Fawzi Nass, was placed second and Marvel Of Peru, owned by Victorious, was third in the race for local-bred maiden class horses three years old and upwards.
Gomati, owned by Abdulla Fawzi Nass, trained by Hesham Al Haddad and ridden by Husain Makki, won the Late Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup, carrying a prize of BD5,000, in the sixth race for imported horses three years old and upwards.
Gomati was followed by Starboy, owned by Al Afoo Racing Stable, in second position while Coolagh Forest, owned by Mohammed Khalid A Rahim, was third. The race covered a distance of 1,600m.
Meanwhile, the 1,400m fifth race for the class 4 and maiden horses three years old and upwards, carrying a cash prize of BD2,000, was won by Hello Baileys, owned by Al Mohamediya Racing, trained by Osama Hashim and ridden by Paddy Mathers.
The 1,200m fourth race for the Late Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup was claimed by Boragh Steps, owned by Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, trained by J Naylor and ridden by Adnan Jaffar. The winner claimed a cash prize of BD2,000 in the race for imported horses three years old and upwards.
The 1,000m third race for Late Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup, for maiden horses three years old and upwards and carrying a prize of BD2,000, was won by Kuheilan Umm Zorayr 1766, owned by Safra, trained by A Smith and ridden by Edinson Rodriguez.
The second race for the Late Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup was won by Saheel, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, trained by J Naylor and ridden by Paddy Mathers.
Parchment, owned by Victorious, trained by A Smith and ridden by A Rahim Jasim, won the first race for the Late Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup.
Present at the race were Shaikh Turki bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa, and Supreme Council for Environment deputy chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa.
