Diplomats at home and abroad have expressed their condolences on the death of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and recognised his role in elevating Bahrain’s international relations.
Bahrain ambassador to the UK, Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, said that the Premier had valued the special centuries-old friendship between the two countries.
“He was instrumental in strengthening ties and common values both countries share today,” he said.
“HRH dedicated his life to shaping Bahrain into the forward-looking, modern and open society that it is today.”
British Ambassador Roddy Drummond described the late Premier as a ‘true friend’ of his country.
“On behalf of all staff at the British Embassy in Bahrain, we are deeply saddened by the death of the Premier and offer heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Bahrain. We will mourn this statesman who was a true friend to the UK.”
Bahrain’s Ambassador to the US, Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, also offered his condolences to the people of Bahrain at this difficult time.
Bahrain’s former ambassador to the US, Huda Nonoo, offered her condolences, calling the late Premier ‘a true statesman who will never be forgotten’ and ‘a visionary man who always put his countrymen before himself’.
US chargé d’affaires Margaret Nardi offered her deepest condolences too, on behalf of the US embassy in Bahrain, to the leadership and the people of Bahrain.
The Indian Embassy in Bahrain will be flying their national flag at half-mast as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
French Ambassador Jérôme Cauchard offered his condolences on behalf of his nation, adding: “With the passing of the late Premier, the Bahraini people have lost a great leader who marked the history of the kingdom and whose constant commitment to serving the kingdom of Bahrain on the path of progress and prosperity I salute.”
