BAHRAIN yesterday welcomed Britain’s decision to add the kingdom to the list of safe countries from where people travelling to the UK do not need to self-isolate.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani said adding Bahrain to the list of safe “travel corridors” confirms the sound directives of His Majesty King Hamad to protect the health and safety of everyone as well as the sincere national efforts, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and Prime Minister, in confronting the repercussions of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and mitigating its spread.
Dr Al Zayani praised the proactive precautionary measures taken by Bahrain and the progress it has made compared with other countries in confronting the spread of the pandemic.
He praised the contributions of medical workers working at the frontlines and the support of other entities for their efforts to protect the health and safety of the communities.
The minister also commended the Bahraini community’s awareness and adherence to all the preventive measures, health requirements and instructions issued by competent authorities.
On Thursday, UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced on his Twitter account that the UAE, Chile, Iceland, Cambodia, Laos and Turks and Caicos Islands were also on the safe list.
“If you arrive from these countries after 4am on Saturday you will not need to self-isolate,” he said.
However, he added that the travel ban on Denmark will also be extended for a further 14 days.
“A reminder that under the current restrictions, travel outside of the home, with the exception of a limited number of reasons including work or education, is not permitted,” he posted.
“Latest data also means we have to REMOVE all of GREECE apart from Corfu, Crete, Rhodes, Zakynthos and Kos from the #TravelCorridor list.
“From 4am Saturday 14th November, if you arrive into the UK from this destination you will need to self-isolate.”
