POLICY-MAKERS measure the effectiveness of awareness campaigns by the degree of their success in societies. The efforts of those involved in the campaign, the level of public participation and the government’s financial commitment all contribute to the success of a campaign.
Bahrain has successfully contained the Covid-19 pandemic. The declining numbers of new cases and death rates are good indicators that the kingdom has outsmarted other developed countries that have witnessed second waves of the coronavirus.
However, we should not dwell on our success. The virus is still active and we are not out of the woods yet. To keep the virus at bay, we need to continue following the precautionary measures the Health Ministry has provided us. Our success so far should not let us slacken from observing the preventive procedures. Perseverance in continuing to do the same is the name of the game when it comes to containing the pandemic.
Medical experts are warning us that the decline in new cases does not necessarily mean the virus has gone away. In fact, it is a sign that we are doing good but also sends a message that we should continue holding on it.
