A MAN was caught red-handed violating the Public Health law by turning his home into a sheesha cafe and serving more than 10 people at a time.
An investigation revealed that the suspect ignored Covid-19 regulations by serving sheesha without a permit.
“The Public Prosecution received a report from the Public Health Directorate stating that the defendant had turned his backyard into a public space where he was serving sheesha and drinks violating precautionary measures in place to combat Covid-19,” Ministries and Public Bodies prosecutor Bader Al Hassan said in a statement.
“The defendant was caught red-handed receiving customers who occupied more than 50 per cent of the tables, with more than six people sitting around one of them.
“It has also emerged that the defendant was using sheesha hoses without providing sanitisers or disinfecting surfaces.”
According to Mr Al Hassan, a worker and 13 customers were found in the premises without wearing face masks or adhering to social distancing.
The Public Prosecution commenced its investigation immediately following the complaint and the café owner has been remanded in custody. All the defendants will face trial, Mr Al Hassan said.
