REGARDING MS’s letter (‘Make roads safer!’, GDN, November 24). Absolutely agree with everything you say.
Now you may find some of what I say strange! However, watch local boys riding bicycles anywhere. Totally undisciplined. No concept of self preservation, or consideration for other people. This, it may firmly be believed, is the beginning of these boys’ idea of how to use the road. So when they graduate to sometimes not-too-safe cars their mad ideas persist despite having or not having driving lessons.
One thing I have enquired about over many years is how many looney drivers have valid driving licences, and road-worthy certification for their vehicles. It is understood that many of these people who misdemean have ways of escaping by the influence of relatives and friends in position to “get them off”.
Could this story be investigated? After reading that children born outside Bahrain will need DNA test it might be interesting to investigate the background of offenders.
In addition many years ago after seeing a mid-twenties man drink on the beach area of Busaiteen at 10am on a Saturday morning and drawing the attention of the local community police to this, their only comment was that nothing could be done unless the drinker was involved in an accident!!
Not only this, watch sometime when you are a passenger in a car, notice how many people driving cars are not only on the phone, they are texting, drinking coffee or whatever.
Women drivers are just as bad even with their cars full of children.
No doubt no one out there is interested in my comments.
