Chefs of all ages are being invited to participate in a virtual competition, which kicks off today, with winners due to be announced on November 29, as part of the annual week of Italian cuisine in the world.
The World Italian Cuisine Week kicked off on Monday and will continue until Sunday with a number of initiatives.
The fifth edition of this event revolves around the evolution of Italian flavours and culinary knowledge in the two centuries since the birth of noted Chef Pellegrino Artusi, who penned the iconic cookbook, Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well, in 1891.
“Italian cuisine is not only synonymous with excellence and quality, but also with health and well-being,” added Paola Amadei, Italian ambassador to the kingdom.
“With this in mind, I am pleased to acknowledge that the local market is increasingly appreciating and holding into esteem our agricultural and food production.”
In collaboration with LuLu Hypermarket Bahrain, the Italian Embassy in Manama has organised two food competitions, one for adults and the other for children.
Interested chefs can share a short video on social media in which they cook their favourite Italian recipe. Each submission must be tagged #ItalianCuisineHomeChefs for adults and #ItalianCuisineLittleHomeChefs for kids, aged six to 10 years.
Videos will evaluated based on creativity, plating, presentation and likes received on LuLu’s Instagram channel.
In addition, notable Italian restaurants in the kingdom, including Primavera at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain, Oliveto in Adliya’s Block 338, Fatto in Seef area and Rosso in Amwaj, have prepared a promotional menu to highlight the diverse flavours of Italian culinary tradition.
“Although Italian cuisine is celebrated every week in Manama,” added Ms Amadei, “I am very delighted to see how the Italian restaurants have created such delicious menus for the Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World to give further visibility to this event that represents a moment of sharing and exchange between our cultures.”
Italian Trade Agency commissioner Giosafat Riganò, added: “Our initiative intends to promote those restaurants and chefs who contribute every day to spreading Italian cuisine in the world. Therefore, we are working with Italian restaurants already well known in Manama that daily promote the consumption and knowledge of Italian cuisine in Bahrain through a combination of ingredients, products, recipes, and knowledge that start from afar to arrive on our tables.”
