MANAMA: The legislative branch plays a crucial role in strengthening the pillars of democracy and serving the citizens, His Majesty King Hamad said yesterday.
He was speaking when he received the annual reports of the two chambers of the National Assembly for the second session of the fifth Legislative Term.
He received at Sakhir Palace Parliament Speaker Fouzia Zainal, Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh and their deputies, who submitted the reports.
He expressed pride in the crucial role played by the legislative branch in strengthening the pillars of the national democratic march, and developing laws and legislation that serve the citizens and meet their needs.
He praised the continuous achievements of the two chambers of the National Assembly, highlighting their pivotal role in strengthening Bahrain’s relations with friendly countries.
He appreciated the two councils’ patriotic stances, praising the statements they had issued following the interception of two Coastguard boats by patrol vessels of the Qatari Coast and Border Security.
His Majesty also hailed the advanced level of the ongoing executive-legislature co-operation in a way that serves the democratic process, highlighting the constructive initiatives and proposals contained in the reports of the Shura Council and Parliament for the development of their legislative and oversight performances.
During the meeting, a number of local issues, especially the latest developments in the fight against the novel coronavirus and the positive progress made by the kingdom in this regard, were discussed.
His Majesty praised the tremendous efforts of the National Taskforce to Combat Covid-19 to eradicate the pandemic.
