Riffa and Manama claimed the last two spots in the King Cup quarter-finals after emerging winners of their round-of-16 matches yesterday.
At Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town, Riffa edged Al Khaldiya 1-0 with the help of Ali Mudon’s goal in the 20th minute.
Riffa will take on Al Najma in the quarter-final.
The second match of the day, at Al Ahli Stadium in Mahooz, witnessed an exciting finish as the match was decided by penalty shootout after Manama and Al Shabab failed to score in regular time.
Mahdi Abdul Jaber, Mohammed Adel, Abdulrahman Al Sayed and Ahmed Musa struck for Manama in the shootout while Mahdi Abdul Latif missed the target. Al Shabab succeeded just twice as only Ayman Abdul Amir and Faisal Abdulla could manage to beat the Manama goalkeeper.
The 4-2 shootout win helped Manama set up a quarter-final clash with last season’s runners-up Al Hidd.
