Parliament’s session ended abruptly today amid a health alert with several MPs requesting urgent Covid-19 tests after an MP tested positive to the virus.
Parliament secretary-general Rashid Najma said in an urgent media communique that work would resume without disruption by MPs and employees online, including direct services to the public, committee affairs and any scheduled meetings.
"The session was ended because there were not enough MPs present for the session to continue," he said. "We called in a team from the Health Ministry to carry out necessary Covid-19 tests on all MPs and employees with no exceptions.
"All work affairs, direct services to the public, committees and scheduled meetings and appointments have been moved online.
"Everyone's safety is our utmost priority and so is doing our work without delay."
