Defending champions Al Hidd eased past Al Ahli 2-0 in the second round of the Nasser bin Hamad Premier League at Al Ahli Club Stadium in Mahooz last night.
After a goalless first half and a listless 30 minutes post interval, Hidd finally celebrated when Saad Al Amer fired them ahead in the 78th minute. Ali Abdulla extended the lead in the last minute of the match as Hidd sealed their first victory of the season.
Hidd, who were held 1-1 by Al Najma in the first round, are second in the standings with four points while Najma are fifth with two points after their second consecutive draw.
Meanwhile, at the Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium, Riffa defeated Manama 2-1.
Ali Mudon and Mahdi Hamidan scored for the winners while Ali Hassan Saeed pulled one back for Manama.
Riffa, who played out a goalless draw with Muharraq in the first round, took the third spot in the standings with four points.
Budaiya collected their first point after a stubborn resistance that helped them hold last season’s runners-up Muharraq to a goalless draw at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.
Muharraq, after their second straight draw, are sixth while Budaiya, promoted after a runner-up finish in last season’s second division league, leapfrogged Malkiya and Ahli into the eighth position.
The second round has concluded with last night’s matches and the clashes will resume on December 26.
