The government has said that the year of internship is restricted to Bahraini graduates from local medical colleges, according to a report in Akhbar Al Khaleej.
“The measure aims to reduce pressure on medical equipment, departments and clinical facilities,” it said.
The government was responding to a parliamentary proposal to allow overseas Bahraini graduates to spend their internship at Salmaniya Medical Complex and other public health centres.
It said that Colleges of Medicine usually allows its graduates one year of internship as part of its programme of studies.
According to the Health Ministry’s statististics, 301 doctors are currently training at hospitals in different specialities.
An additional 120 medical graduates are to start training.
“The Royal Medical Services and the King Hamad University Hospital allow a certain number of graduates to train, giving priority to those supported by them.”
