A TRAVEL travel agent told me last week that the baggage allowance for every air passenger was two pieces, each weighing a maximum of 23kg.
He further told me that the two pieces should be suitcases, attaché or trolley bags, not “cartons”.
I went to the airport to get this information confirmed.
Right at the beginning of “check-in entrance security briefing”, a standing board explained what type of baggage could be booked with the check-in.
One pictorial item was a “box” reading it should be with a proper surface.
A box is a carton made of hardboard. I thought the travel agent gave me the wrong information.
In the meantime, I saw a group of some 20-22 passengers arriving and queueing up, ignoring social distancing regulations between them, for clearance from the first security check to walk towards their respective airline check-in counter.
They all wore dark red type shirts and looked like some sports team.
Majority of them had as their baggage one or two boxes probably having gone on shopping spree in Bahrain.
I talked with the man wrapping the baggage indicating the boxes of these passengers.
He surprised me by saying the ban on boxes or cartons was only for passengers flying to Pakistan, India and Bangladesh.
If this be true, then why this discrimination in this era when colour, religious, linguistic and cast differences are diminishing?
A bit of clarity on this will be much appreciated.
