AT least 15 babies were born across the kingdom within the first 12 hours of 2021, bringing joy into the life of new parents after a tumultuous 2020.
According to reports received by the GDN, Bahraini Ghadeer Hamed AlGhadhban was the first recorded birth in 2021, born at 12.01am at Bahrain Specialist Hospital. The 2.930kg baby girl was born to Hamed AlGhadhban and Fatema Saleh Mahdi Hasan.

“I am so delighted with the birth of my fourth child and second daughter,” the exuberant father told the GDN.
“We arrived at the hospital at 11.40pm after putting our other daughter and two sons to bed. I went downstairs to fill out some paperwork as my wife went into labour and by the time I got back, Ghadeer was born and I got the best New Year’s present.
“My first child and daughter, Kawthar, who is 10 years old, had picked out a name after warning us that she wanted a sister, after her two younger brothers.
“For us, our new daughter represents hope for the new year to come, after the difficult year we have all had. She is our symbol of potential post-Covid bliss, especially as the vaccine has been announced.”
The Health Ministry reported that 11 babies were born between 12 midnight and 12 noon at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) – five of whom are girls and six are boys.
The first birth at SMC was recorded at 1am, as Bahraini parents Hassan Hashem Hassan and Sharifa Jaffar Mohsen welcomed the New Year and their baby boy.

The father, Mr Hassan, expressed delight at the birth of the new baby and wished him happiness in life, according to the statement from the Health Ministry.
Nine minutes later, Ali Mana Ali and his wife Asma Saleh Muqbal were blessed with a baby daughter, making her the second baby to be born at the country’s largest public hospital.
At 1.40am, Khalid Ebrahim Ali and his wife Zainab Syed Hasan welcomed a baby girl at SMC.
At 2.57am, Arvin Jayean Ursua Quiros was born, weighing 2.830kg, at American Mission Hospital to his mother Rijean Ursua Quiros and father, Arjay Delavega Quiros.
“My husband and I were blessed with the safe and smooth delivery of our second son Arvin,” the mother of the Filipino baby said.

“I am also thankful to the AMH staff for taking care of me and my baby while I was in labour. I appreciate all the efforts especially the doctors and nurses. Since the day I was admitted, they ensured the safety of their patients – myself and my son.”
At 3.14am, the Royal Bahrain Hospital recorded its first birth of 2021, as Bahraini boy Rashid Muhammed Al Aud, was born, weighing 2.75kg, to Meaad Adnan and Mohammed Al Aud.
Later at 4.36am, Jaffar Ali Shaban and Fatima Syed Hussain became parents to a new baby boy at SMC.
At the crack of dawn at 6.20am, Mohammed Ebrahim and Afra Mirza Radhi welcomed their baby boy, making him the fifth baby to be born at SMC.
As SMC welcomed three more boys and three more girls, the maternity ward expressed their congratulations and best wishes to families who welcomed babies in 2021 and happiness in the new-borns’ lives.
At 9.40am, the Royal Hospital for Women and Children welcomed Dana Farooq Fakhro, who was born weighing 2.985kg to her mother Eman Abdulrahim Almerbati and father Farooq Salah Fakhroo.
