THREE men have been jailed for smuggling narcotics worth thousands of dinars into Bahrain.
Two Bangladeshi men, aged 30 and 35, were jailed for 15 years by the High Criminal Court for smuggling drugs, while a 26-year-old, also Bangladeshi, was jailed for 12 months for possession.
The defendants were arrested after one of them was caught with 3kg of marijuana at Bahrain International Airport on September 29.
The 26-year-old, who was returning to Bahrain after a trip to Bangladesh, led policemen to his co-defendants who were also arrested later.
The narcotics were smuggled in four food containers which authorities confiscated after running them through an X-ray machine.
The defendants were arrested after authorities received a tip-off about the illegal shipment, worth more than BD40,000 in street value.

“Authorities received information that drugs were being smuggled from Bangladesh,” read the court ruling.
“The defendant (26-year-old defendant) was stopped and authorities found more than two kilos of marijuana hidden in food containers.
“He helped authorities arrest his co-defendants and as a result, he received only 12 months behind bars.
“He (defendant aged 26) rang up his co-defendants and asked them to come to his house to collect the shipment.
“Policemen then caught the men red-handed.”
The convicts will be deported after completing their sentences.
The two defendants jailed for 15 years were fined BD5,000 while their accomplice was slapped with a BD1,000 fine.
