A MAN who stole his room-mate’s debit card and withdrew BD120 has been jailed for five years.
The 23-year-old Indian cleaner was found guilty of theft and fraud by the High Criminal Court.
The theft occurred in an apartment the two men shared in Arad on March 5.
The victim only realised his debit card was missing after he received text messages informing him that BD120 had been withdrawn from his account.
The defendant previously told prosecutors he took the card when he spotted his room-mate’s wallet in the bedroom.
Guilty
He was found guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence against him.
“The defendant was spotted withdrawing money from an ATM machine in Arad by surveillance cameras,” read the court ruling.
“The defendant used the pin which was written on the card.
“He said that he bought food from a supermarket for BD75 and calling cards worth BD45.
“He then returned the card to the victim’s wallet.
“The victim said that he received two text messages telling him that BD120 had been withdrawn from his account.
“He said he suspected the defendant because he was the only person in the apartment that day while the other room-mates were at work.”
