MANAMA: Strategic projects and procurement requests by government entities valued at approximately BD1.3 million were discussed at the 40th Information and Communication Technology Governance Committee (ICTGC) meeting.
Chaired by Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) chief executive Mohammed Al Qaed, the meeting was held online.
Mr Al Qaed expressed his expectation for the new year to bring more achievements that benefit the country and the citizens, wishing the committee further success during the exceptional circumstances that the kingdom and the whole world are experiencing.
The committee has chosen iGA deputy chief executive Dr Zakaria Al Khaja as deputy chairman wishing him continued success.
It reviewed procurement requests, including a plan to modernise the television archives at the Information Affairs Ministry and upgrade the media archiving system through modern technologies.
Artificial Intelligence will be used to improve search, retrieval, and backup copying of media material in line with International Telecommunications Union (ITU) standards.
The meeting also discussed the births and deaths certificate archival system at the iGA, upgrades to which will entail replacing paper archives with a computerised archiving system that enables easy and quick search.
The project will enhance the quality of services offered to the public, including retrieval of certificates.
The committee reviewed the latest version of the government’s website development standards, which will include the latest best practices in line with United Nations eGovernment Survey requirements, in addition to an updating of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) in line with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
