Bahrain’s 2 Seas Motorsport team, led by Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, will start today’s Gulf 12 Hours race from P1 and P2 at Bahrain International Circuit.
The 33 McLaren Customer Racing 720S GT3 of Shaikh Isa, Ben Barnicoat and Martin Kodrić narrowly edged teammates Edward Jones, Lewis Williamson and Dylan Pereira.
Each of the three qualifying sessions saw 2 Seas Motorsport drivers trading quickest laps, locking out P1 and P2 in each. Both held the advantage at different points as the clock ticked down, but it was the quickest lap of the weekend so far posted by Barnicoat in the final minutes which saw the 33 claim pole by just 0.2s.
“A long battle lies ahead for the team and our six drivers with 12 hours of hard racing, but today is a huge result for the team in our biggest challenge so far,” the team said.
The first leg of the race will take place today between 9.30am and 3.30pm, and the second leg from 5.30pm to 11.30pm.
Shaikh Isa affirmed that “seeing Bahrain host this prestigious event is an extension to the success achieved in the past years in motorsports”.
“The practice and qualifying sessions were exciting and filled with thrills,” he said, adding the main race is expected to witness a fierce competition.
