A MAN has been jailed for five years for attacking an expatriate in front of his wife and children.
The 38-year-old Bahraini assaulted the Egyptian man, 45, in Amwaj in July last year following a row over a cat.
According to court documents, the defendant flew into a rage and threatened the victim’s daughter after he allegedly saw her kicking a cat.
The defendant also insulted the victim’s wife before punching and headbutting him when confronted over the issue.
“He pushed the man to the ground and sat on top of him as he continued the assault,” the High Criminal Court said in its verdict.
“The defendant told the victim’s daughter not to come to Amwaj again and insulted her mother. Surveillance footage in Amwaj was submitted to court as evidence.”
The victim earlier described how he was left with a broken nose after the brutal assault.
“He (the defendant) told my daughter not to come to Amwaj again and threatened to put us in jail,” he told prosecutors. “The defendant then started swearing at my wife when she intervened and confronted him over the threat.
“I asked him to be polite while speaking to my wife. He was enraged and punched me in the face. He then pushed me to the ground and assaulted me.
“My nose was bleeding a lot and he told my son that he will attack him if he defended me.
“Passers-by came to my aid and I was taken to a hospital. We then informed police about what had happened.”
The defendant lodged an objection at the same court, which has been adjourned until Tuesday.
